Mixed Metallics

A new, spring design tactic: mixed metallics. Toned down, darker hues in matte finishes will bring out the ‘moody’ motifs that are part of other 2021 trends like indigo and black color palettes. Not sure what to mix? No worries - we’ve got the basics ready for you!

There are three tones of metals: warm (brass, gold, copper), cool (aluminum, silver, stainless steel) and neutral (cast iron, blacks). Neutral metals are often a safe ‘mixer’ as they pair well with both cool and warm tones. When mixing cool and warm metals together, focus on matching the texture and finish for consistency. If you already have one type of metal in your room, be sure to use that same metal in a light fixture or other mixed piece to carry a cohesive element throughout the space.

Tip: Avoid mixing more than three types of metals as it often becomes busy and overwhelming.
